Down here in the American midwest it looks like winter is finally backng off, some mild temperatures finally and a nice gentle rain for the last two days.
But I love storms, the more fierce the better. Lightening, thunder, wind, bring it on.

PAJA, Welcome to the board.
One of my sisters has been married to a non-JW for coming on 30 years and they are quite happy together and have a good relationship. I don't think that it is very common, but it can be done.
From what I can see the key with them was from day one he was very upfront and honest about what his feelings were, ie. I will never be a witness, and I do not want to hear the witness propaganda at home, nor do I want visits from anybody from the hall. I will do my thing as far a holidays go etc. On the other hand he never gives her grief about the meetings, service, assemblies, that is his alone time for his pursuits. The other thing was they never had children which I think simplified things, having kids just adds another level of stressors to the relationship. So, my advice, as said above, be truthful and upfront about your feelings from day one, don't weasel around just because you love this woman then stiffen up later.

Purp,
One good piece of advice my shrink gave me that worked alot when I got into a funk was that where the body goes the mind will eventually follow. His advice was to force yourself to act energized and keep moving. Force yourself to talk and mingle, get out of the house, walk the mall, be around people, smile and interact and by doing that physically even though you didn't really feel that way your mental state would often be forced to catch up. It worked for me alot of times when I found myself in a funk.
Other than that suggestion, hang in there, there are people that care about you, draw strength from that, this too shall pass.

My sister in law, a hardcore dub tried to take her own life several years ago. She has gotten no counseling other than what she was forced to recieve in the psych ward in the hospital. The advice from the hall was to pray, that secular therapists could not help her as their "worldly views" had no bearing on a "true" christian's life. Several of her children have frank mental problems as well and they are recieving no help or medication. Not to beat a dead horse cliche' but a couple of brothers (one a truck driver and the other who mows lawns) are working with the kid. I will be the first to say there is nothing wrong with earning an honest living and just because I am educated I do not feel superior to manual laborers, but as I have also said, if I need my appendix taken out I'm not going to an auto mechanic. I have heard over and over from my family what a waste psychologist/psychiatrit's are. My mother was forced to do some testing recently and scored a 15 out of 15 on a depression test which the psychologist told me they had only seen once or twice before in their practice.
In my twenties I was lucky enough to go to an excellent therapist who made one interesting comment, he said typically he totally stays away from religion, whatever gives a patient comfort was fine with him, though he said in my case he was going to make an exception and told me the worst possible thing in his professional opinion that I could do was return to the kingdom hall. He was preaching to the choir with that one. My siblings and extended family are so incredibly disfunctional that is just saddens me deeply, and it is no mystery to me where the disfunction comes from.

A 1914 generation question
by Pwned ini was around in 1995, barely, but i dont remember any talks or articles where the new light about the generation of 1914. did they change w/o coming right out and saying so,or was there a talk.
especially in regards to the mission statement or whatever in the awake, did they make an announcement or did they just hope no one would notice?
i just cant believe that there wasnt a mass exodus after that, my family never mentioned the change to me, i didnt even know til years later on this site.

I remember when I was growing up the 1914 stuff was being taught heavy, and it was not speculation, it was doctrine, it was fact. I can remember one brother going on and on from the platform about how a person would have to have been old enough to understand what was going on in 1914, it could not be an infant, etc. I remember elders discussing how old a person would have to be etc. I stopped going in the early 80's but a friend of mine pointed out the article in Newsweek to me which just blew me away, I was like how in the heck can they do this. It launched me on a new cycle of ranting at my family about what a whack job religion they belonged to. That was also the first time I heard about the light getting brighter. I was just dumbfounded, like you are buying the crap, the whole basis for your timeline and urgency and everything just went out the window. The looks on their faces were hard to describe, I can't really pinpoint what to call it.

It is not for the rank and file to reason why, but to do, do, do, do, do, and die.

Stilla, sure, if it is all a big fairy tale I agree, I was operating on the assumption of a basic belieft in the Bible, God, Jesus, etc.
